Open Book Club: The Garden of Last Days (Part I)
(NECN) - The Open Book Club begins with the panel discussing "The Garden of Last Days," the newest novel by Andre Dubus III. Hosts Debbie DiMasi and Christy Cashman are joined by author Andre Dubus III, and counterterrorism expert Jessica Stern and Helene Atwan, the director of Beacon Press publishing. The book is set in Florida, shortly before 9/11 - and features a stripper named April, who uses the stage name (and persona) of Spring as she dances at the Puma Club for Men. One early September night in Florida, April brings her three-year-old daughter to work, because her usual babysitter is in the hospital. The panel and Dubus discuss the disparate characters, April and a client named Bassam, a Saudi man who only later April learns was one of the 9/11 hijackers.
