Jailhouse interview with Obama threat suspect
By NECN
(NECN/KCNC) - Although federal authorities say there is not enough evidence to call a threat against Barack Obama credible, comments made by a couple of convicted felons captured headlines as part of the Democratic National Convention. Reports surfaced Monday of three men being arrested and suspected of plotting to kill presidential candidate Barack Obama during his acceptance speech in Denver on Thursday. During a news conference on Tuesday, federal authorities said the suspects were nothing more than "meth heads" making racial comments. One of the suspects, Nathan Johnson, spoke from the jail in Denver, Colorado. Johnson talked about the comments that got so much attention from federal authorities. He wouldn't say whether he believed the comments were legitimate; he also didn't say they were not. Authorities say the suspects were found with high powered rifles, wigs, a bulletproof vest and walkie-talkies. Authorities have not explained what the men were doing with those items. Nathan Johnson: "Yeah, they were here to do that. Assassinate him." Nathan Johnson: "I mean, I'm taking it as serious as I can remember it." Nathan Johnson: "He don't belong in political office or blacks don't belong in political office. He ought to be shot." Nathan Johnson: "Looking back at it I don't want to say yes, but I don't want to say no."
