(NECN: Kenneth Craig, Worcester, Mass.) - School was out for some Worcester elementary students Monday. Class was dismissed due to major damage caused by vandals.
Inside Belmont Community School, a maze of destruction.
Every corner of every room in shambles, almost nothing left untouched.
Police say all this, the work of several weekend vandals.
Even seasoned police say they've never seen anything like this before.
What is clear is that the Worcester elementary school was broken into and ransacked, room by room.
They say it may cost half a million dollars to clean it up.
Morning custodians discovered the mess early Monday morning, it was impossible to miss.
Broken windows, shot-out computers and flooding is just the beginning.
Over 400 students relocated to a nearby high school where they could be picked up.
Belmont will be closed at least through Tuesday, as investigators continue searching for clues and cleanup crews work to get the place up and running.
Authorities say they don't have much to work on but are looking to bring the person or people responsible to justice.
Meanwhile - they're looking for the public's help - anyone with information is urged to contact police.
