Gengels preparing for worst, praying for miracle

(NECN: Kristen Caira, Rutland, Mass.) - The father of a missing Lynn University student returned to Boston on Sunday after making a trip to Haiti with relatives of the other missing students. Len Gengel said one of the families received closure, but he is still holding out hope for a miracle. "We are preparing ourselves for the worst, and praying for a miracle," Gengel said Sunday night. Gengel met with Embassy officials and a team of searchers, who managed to find the ruins of Room 300, where his daughter Britney Gengel was staying at the Hotel Montana. "There was no sign of life or death in the room or in the bathroom," Len Gengel said. According to Gengel, there was news for the family of student Courtney Hayes. "The Hayes family, which accompanied us, got to talk to the rescuers who went to their room. And they were able to bring some closure," Gengel said. Congressman Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) accompanied Gengel on the trip to Haiti. "I share Len's prayer that we hope for a miracle," Rep. McGovern said. "This family has gone through an awful lot." Eight students from Lynn University did make it out safely after the 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit.
