Guthrie, community hold benefit for fire victims
By NECN
(NECN: Kristen Caira, Northampton, Mass.) - A benefit concert will be held Saturday night for the victims of 15 arson fires in Northampton. The concert, which features folk singer Arlo Guthrie and will be held at Academy of Music Theatre, is sold out. All of the proceeds from the concert will benefit the Northampton Neighbors Relief Fund, set up to help the victims of the fires that were set on December 27th. A father and son died in one of the fires. "I think that if people who live in an area can help out, they ought to," Guthrie said. "And I live right down the road and so I'm happy to be here and help out for these folks who ended up without homes and cars or whatever as a result of the fires." Guthrie normally takes this time of year off from touring and spends time with his family. But when he heard about the fires he returned home from Florida to be a part of the concert. A local 25-year-old man has been charged with setting those fires.
