(NECN: John Moroney) - Diane Patrick, the Governor's wife made her choice for U.S Senate. Another high-profile female endorsement for Michael Capuano, one week after house speaker Nancy Pelosi showed her support for the democratic congressman.
Capuano says the support of the first lady of Massachusetts is more personal than anything else. And he says he's proud of his support from men and women.
"I have men, I have white people, black people, Hispanic people, Asian people. I'm very proud of the diversity of this campaign and that includes some women.”
Khazei: "Congratulations to Mike, but at the end of the day Diane Patrick has one vote like every other citizen in this state. The people are going to decide this election, not big endorsements."
Alan Khazei says his campaign has more than two dozen women co-chairs. But the City Year founder does not think gender will decide the race.
"I’m getting tons of support from women of all ages and backgrounds all across the state. I think this race is going to be decided based on who is the best for Massachusetts."
"Steve Pagliuca and Martha Coakley were unavailable Saturday. Coakley is of course the only women in the race. She has received the support of other women, but her biggest endorsement perhaps comes from Emily’s List, a national group that helps elect pro-choice women to office."
Coakley has been careful when it comes to the women's vote ... Not wanting to make it the issue. But it's clearly a strength for her campaign when it comes to money and organization.
Coakley: "I think it's a plus in this race. I won't deny it. I could brake into a Broadway tune of I enjoying being the girl but I’m not going to do that."
